"I have seen the effects of poverty, job losses, education cuts, mental health cuts, drug abuse, child abuse, domestic violence and budget cuts. It has had a deep and profound effect on me personally. "

As a judge for over half of my life, I am well aware of the need to make sure our law enforcement has the resources to keep our community safe. I have always been a strong supporter of law enforcement and will continue to do so. However, we have to do a better job of identifying children at an early age who are in need of services. Teachers are a tremendous asset in identifying these children. Generally, if you find children in need, you will find a family that is in need. This is also a way to discover substance abuse and possibly intervene early before the problem becomes acute. If we fail to do this, our crime rate will continue to increase and the nature of the crimes will become more violent. This is especially true with our current opioid crisis. It is better to put the money and resources at the front end than at the rear which usually results in jail time for a young person or a family member.

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.

"There is simply too much at stake. We need to get back to the things that made us what we are. We need to invest in our education, the creation of good jobs, taking care of our children, our elderly, our disadvantaged and our sick. When we build up the working folks, we build up our economy and our communities."
